Lebedev to head CIS observation mission for parliamentary elections in Belarus

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – The CIS observation mission for the parliamentary elections in Belarus will be headed by the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, BelTA learnt.

The issue regarding the chief of the CIS election observation mission was included in the agenda of a meeting of the CIS council of permanent plenipotentiary representatives which was held in Minsk on 17 July. The plenipotentiary representatives supported the candidacy of Sergei Lebedev as head of the CIS observation mission for the elections to Belarusian Parliament.

“The President of the Republic of Belarus suggested my candidacy. This is a great honor. I am ready for the job,” Sergei Lebedev told reporters.

As previously reported, the CIS observation mission for the parliamentary elections in Belarus will be deployed in Minsk in mid-August. The formation of the CIS mission has already begun. The mission will include 30 long-term and 300 short-term observers. The CIS mission will have offices in all regions of Belarus.
