MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko believes that any concerns about the safety of the future nuclear power plant are ungrounded. The Belarusian leader made this statement as he met with young social scientists in the Modern Belarusian Statehood Museum on 22 June, BelTA has learnt from the presidential press service.

The President stressed that Belarus today is surrounded by operating NPPs. “We are building the safest facility, and Russia takes responsibility for it,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

Disputes regarding the NPP construction in Belarus are still in place. Certain powers take attempts to block the project. “These are mostly those who have been paid for it, including our “fifth column”,” the President said.

“Lithuania and Poland are among those who are the unhappiest about the project. Let us take a different approach to this issue. Lithuania plans to build its nuclear power plant only several kilometers away from ours. Then why do you cry it is bad and unsafe? Poland plans to construct two facilities of the kind. The problem here is that the one who builds it first wins. We are going to be the first to generate electricity and sell it,” the President noted.
