MTZ to deliver 50 tractor kits to Moldova in 2012

MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) - In 2012 Minsk Tractor Works plans to deliver about 50 tractor kits to Moldova where they will be assembled. Issues of expansion of cooperation between Belarus and Moldova, the supply of agricultural machinery were discussed during a visit of the parliamentary delegation of Moldova to MTZ.

The delegation was headed by Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Marian Lupu. The Moldovan MPs visited the main floor of the plant, and attended the exhibition of its products.

MTZ has long been active in the market of Moldova. Three years ago a joint facility was set up in Chisinau to assemble Belarusian tractors MTZ-921 of 89hp capacity. This tractor is designed for use in gardens and vineyards. Last year MTZ sent 37 tractor kits to Moldova. This year it will be 50 kits. They are sent by Smorgon Aggregates Plant which is part of Minsk tractor Works.

In addition, a trading house “MTZ-Leader” was set up in Chisinau. Minsk Tractor Works owns 51% stake in this venture. Last year Minsk Tractor Works delivered 586 units of equipment to Moldova (apart from tractor kits), which was up 38% from 2010 and 58% more in money terms. In January-May 2012, MTZ delivered 261 tractors to the tune of $4 million to Moldova. Apart from Belarus-921, Moldova also acquires other models from 80hp to 150hp. When visiting the plant, the Moldovan MPs expressed interest in acquiring a wide range of tractors.

In 2011 Belarus-Moldova trade made up $319.7 million (up 28.3% from 2010), Belarus’ export was estimated at $241.9 million. In January-April 2012, the trade amounted to $114.3 million (up 23.5%), exports $89.3 million (up 30.9%).

Minsk Tractor Works was founded in 1946. Now it is affiliated with the Industry Ministry. MTZ produces more than 60 models and modifications of tractors and machines in over 100 versions and configurations for all climatic and operational conditions. New models of tractors are well attachable with agricultural machines from different manufacturers. MTZ also offers forest, utilities and mining machines. MTZ employs about 30,000 professionals.
