MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – A specially appointed lawyer will prepare an appeal against the court verdict on Belarusian nationals convicted in Libya, BelTA has learnt from Maria Vanshina, Deputy Head of the Information Office of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

“According to the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Libya, an appeal against the court ruling on Belarusian citizens is being prepared. A specially appointed lawyer is doing it,” she said. Maria Vanshina noted that there are all grounds to say that the appeal procedure will be completed within the period specified by the Libyan law.

“The Foreign Ministry does not have any information regarding the involvement of Belarusian nationals in physical work,” she said commenting on reports that the convicted Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian citizens were involved in machinery repairs.

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus had informed earlier that diplomats will do their utmost to get the court ruling on Belarusians in Libya reviewed. “We are greatly concerned about the court verdict and insist on the innocence of our citizens,” the Foreign Ministry said. It added that Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov asked his Libyan counterpart for assistance.
