A tulip tree has bloomed in the Central Botanical Garden of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences in Minsk.
The Liriodendron tulipifera, known also as the American tulip tree, is native to eastern North America. Its flowers are pale green or yellow (rarely white), with an orange band on the tepals.
“This tree is 30 years old,” Ihar Haranovich, a deputy lab head at the Central Botanical Garden, told BelaPAN. “It blooms heavily almost every year.”
Gardeners may easily grow the tulip tree as it is readily propagated from cuttings and easily transplanted, said Mr. Haranovich. “If you get a nursery transplant, it won't be a problem to grow a tree from it. The tulip tree requires a particular soil structure and needs light and water, but the same can be said about many other ornamental plants.”
The expert added that the tree had only recently come into bloom. It will become even more beautiful in a couple of days, he said.
