MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) - The press has not lost its influence and relevance in the society, Belarus' Information Minister Lilia Ananich said as she met with EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis, BelTA has learned.
“In recent years the private press distribution market has been growing fast which we think is very important. About 400 business entities, non-state actors are involved in this business. Thus, we can say that the press has not lost its influence and relevance in the society,” Lilia Ananich said.
Lilia Ananich also spoke about the national information space and the role the Information Ministry plays in this process. Among other things, the Minister drew attention to the broadcast market, noting that it will keep growing. “We were especially interested in the programs in foreign languages broadcast by international channels. If we get any cooperation proposals, we will be happy to consider them, because such information is in demand today,” she said.
The Information Minister also noted that she had a chance to see the results of work of the EU Special Representative for Human Rights at various events in Belarus. “The main meeting was with the President of Belarus, and the main message was: let's develop dialogue, cooperation, and do everything to ensure that Belarus and the EU keep in contact and boost the bilateral relations,” Lilia Ananich noted.
