MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian team of Nadezhda Skardino, Irina Krivko, Vladimir Chepelin and Alexander Dorozhko finished 9th in the 2x6+ 2x7.5km mixed relay at the ongoing IBU World Championships in Norway, BelTA has learned.
The organizers and fans were most worried about the weather ahead of this first competition at the 2016 IBU World Championships. Heavy fog covered the stadium in the first half of the day, but it was gone by the time 25 teams headed out of the stadium.
The French team of Anais Bescond, Marie Dorin Habert, Quentin Fillon Maillet and Martin Fourcade won the mixed relay with eight spares in 1:14:01. Germany was second, with seven spares, 4.3 seconds back, while the home team of Norway won bronze, with 10 spares, 14.4 seconds back. Belarusians used just one spare to finish 2:09.1 behind.
Clean-shooting Nadezhda Skardino tagged Irina Krivko in sixth, 25.7 second behind the leader. Irina Krivko kept the Belarusians in the top ten during the second leg. Vladimir Chepelin showed perfect shooting in prone but yielded to contenders in speed. Alexander Dorozhko, who also shot clean, showed slower speeds on the track as well.
The French team clinched their second mixed relay gold in history (the first one was won in 2009).
The IBU World Championships will continue with the men's and women's sprints on 5 March.
