Belarus eager to get IMF loan for good projects instead of consumption

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – Belarus needs a loan from the International Monetary Fund for the sake of good projects instead of consumption, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich on 25 February.

Mikhail Myasnikovich remarked Belarus would use the loan to replenish the gold and foreign exchange reserves in addition to implementing good projects. “But we are not going to just eat it away. We are not going to just consume it. We have to live on our own resources,” he stressed.

Belarus is in talks with the IMF on launching a new program. Belarusian Finance Minister Vladimir Amarin told media that Belarus intends to get the interest rate on the loan reduced from 2.28% to 2.1%.
