MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) - Belarus was elected Vice Chair of the Universal Postal Congress which will be held in Istanbul from 19 September to 7 October. This decision was taken at a session of the Administrative Council of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the UPU Postal Operations Council in the UPU headquarters in Bern.
This is the first time that Belarus has been elected to this position. The host country Turkey will be the chair of the congress.
The events held at the UPU headquarters, which Belarus attended, discussed the draft of the Istanbul world postal strategy for 2017-2020, proposals to amend the UPU acts, regulations regarding written correspondence, parcels, postal payment services, the reform of the Universal Postal Union, and other matters.
The Universal Postal Congress is the supreme body of the UPU. It convenes every four years to address strategic issues of postal service and determines the general program of activities.
Belarus has been a member of the UPU since 1947.
