MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – Belarusian specialist Maxim Sidorenko will officiate at the forthcoming IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Russia alongside with other 15 referees, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation.
Officials were selected from the list of 63 candidates. The selected referees and linesmen will represent 12 countries.
The group includes both experienced officials who repeatedly called games at World Championships and Olympic Games as well as officials who will work for the first time at the top men's senior World Championship.
“I am happy that the IIHF trusts me this work for the third year in a row. I expect good work on ice this year. Referees and teams have a similar goal in mind, which is to reach the playoffs, try their strength in the knockout round and medal games,” noted Maxim Sidorenko.
The 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Russia's Saint Petersburg and Moscow on 6-22 May. Belarus will play Finland (6 May), the United States (7 May), Canada (9 May), Slovakia (11 May), Germany (13 May), Hungary (14 May), and France (17 May) in Group B.
The Belarusian national team will hold the final stage of its preparations for the 2016 IIHF World Championship in early April. Dave Lewis' men will have a number of games as part of the European Ice Hockey Challenge tournament. Belarus will take on France in Grodno on 8-9 April, face Latvia on road on 15-16 April, play Switzerland in Molodechno on 22 April and host Switzerland at Minsk Arena on 23 April. The program will be wrapped up with two road games against Germany on 29-30 April.
