MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Head coach of the Belarusian national women's basketball team Anatoly Buyalsky has announced the players who will take part in the 2016 FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Basketball Federation.
The roster will include 16-year-old Kseniya Malashko who was named the most valuable player of the 2015 FIBA U16 European Championship Women Division B. She took part in the training camp of the national team in the run-up to the 4th edition of the Khalipsky Cup and games against Poland.
The Belarusian roster looks as follows: guards - Natalya Anufriyenko, Yulia Rytikova, Olga Zyuzkova, Lindsay Harding; forwards – Katerina Snytina, Tatyana Likhtarovich, Tatyana Troina, Natalya Trofimova, Maria Popova, Ksenia Malashko; center – Anastasia Veremeyenko, Yelena Levchenko.
The Rio 2016 qualifier will take place in Nantes, France on 13-19 June. Belarus will compete in Group C against Nigeria (13 June) and the Republic of Korea (15 June).
Group A will include Cuba, New Zealand and France; Group B – Cameroon, Turkey and Argentina, Group D – Venezuela, Spain and China.
The top two teams from each group will continue the competition for five places on offer for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Belarusian women's team finished 6th in the 2008 Olympic basketball tournament.
