Witold Waszczykowski and Vladimir Makei
MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Poland are ready to address sensitive issues via compromises. The statement was confirmed by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski at the end of the talks in Minsk on 22 March, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “We have recognized the fact that in our relations there are a number of concerns that need to be removed from the agenda. We have reached an agreement on the specific way of working together on these and other issues.” In his words, the sides have confirmed their readiness to look for mutually beneficial solutions to absolutely all issues, including the most sensitive ones.
“We understand that some issues have to be resolved faster, some have to be resolved later but it seems to me that willingness to resolve these issues, even via compromises, dedication to achieve results, and readiness to tackle the matters on both sides are the most important thing,” stressed Vladimir Makei.
The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that there are no low-priority matters in interstate relations. “Every matter counts since every matter is a brick in the building of Belarusian-Polish friendship,” he said.
“We believe that a foundation of mutual trust has been laid down in Belarus-Poland relations. The foundation needs to be further expanded since we are going to use it to gradually build up fruitful cooperation in the spirit of good neighborhood, respect and readiness for compromises,” he stressed.
“All matters are equally important in relations between neighbors because some of them can result in worse relations and some can produce better relations,” Witold Waszczykowski noted in his turn. “But we are equally serious about economic and historical matters.”
