Belarus' representative elected Chairperson of CSW Working Group on Communications

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Irina Velichko of Belarus was unanimously elected Chairperson of the Working Group on Communications of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The election took place on the eve of the 60th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women due on 14-24 March 2016. “The Working Group on Communications considers communications submitted to the Commission by individuals or organizations with regard to violations of women's rights. On that basis the Working Group prepares a report to the Commission pertaining to the trends and the most typical forms of discrimination against women. The Working Group on Communications comprises Belarus, Belgium, China, Liberia and Uruguay,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Working Group on Communications will present its report for consideration at one of the meetings of the Commission for further submission to the UN Economic and Social Council.
