MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Alexandra Sasnovich successfully went through the qualifying round of the first Premier mandatory event of 2016 in Indian Wells, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian, ranked 102nd in the world, beat Bulgaria's Sesil Karatantcheva (World No.128) 7-5, 6-4 and saw off World No.59 Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-1, 6-2.
Alexandra Sasnovich will next face Czech Barbora Strycova (World No.37).
Appearing on the open courts in Indian Wells will be two more Belarusians. Olga Govorstova (World No.84) will take on Russia's Margarita Gasparyan (World No.44) in the opener. Victoria Azarenka (World No.13) will open against Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan (87) or Jamie Loeb of the United States (259).
In the men's doubles event Max Mirnyi of Belarus will play in tandem with Treat Huey of the Philippines.
The tournament in Indian Wells will complete on 20 March.
