MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarusian speed skater Ignat Golovatyuk won the 500m gold at the ongoing ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships to set a new national record in sprint on 11 March, BelTA has learned.
The tournament, which is taking place in China's Changchun, opened with the 500m medal event on 11 March. Ignat Golovatyuk clocked 35.77 seconds in his rivalry with Estonia's Marten Liiv. Belarus' previous record was 36.77 seconds that was set by Ignat Golovatyuk on 5 February in Minsk.
Silver was earned by Canada's Christopher Fiola (35.97 seconds). Bronze went to China's Tao Yang (36.03). The gold medal at the world sport forum is not the first success for the Belarusian athlete. Several days ago he won silver at the ISU Junior World Cup Speed Skating Final in Changchun.
