MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) - Consular services of Belarus and Ukraine are in talks over the ID cards, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Ukraine Valentin Velichko told reporters, BelTA has learned.
According to the diplomat, “at the moment the talks are underway between the consular services.” He noted that the Belarusian border checkpoints recognize both foreign and internal passports.
As was reported, Ukraine introduced a new internal passport early this year. However, the new Ukrainian passport is not listed as a document to cross the Belarusian state border in the bilateral agreement on visa-free trips as of 2009. In this connection, the Belarusian side proposed Ukraine to hold consultations on the ID cards. The visa-free travel regime between Belarus and Ukraine remains in place, as provided in the 2009 agreement.
