MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Information Technologies and Communications Minister Sergei Popkov met with Russian Communications and Mass Media Minister Nikolai Nikiforov to discuss the access of Belarusian software to the Russian market, BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian ministry.
The sides also discussed the coordination of national satellite networks and approaches to forming the common digital space of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). “Our cooperation in the area of communications and information and communication technologies has always been successful and fruitful. I hope we will continue working in this manner. Satellite networks and the sphere of telecommunications in both countries have a huge potential for development. Mutually beneficial bilateral contacts in these areas represent one of the most promising branches of the entire complex of Russian-Belarusian interaction,” the press service quoted Nikolai Nikiforov as saying.
The Russian Communications and Mass Media Minister congratulated the Belarusian side on successfully launching the first geostationary communication satellite in January 2016. He remarked that the coordination of the Belarusian satellite network with Russian networks is regularly discussed by experts of the two countries. For the sake of securing further progress the sides agreed to test the joint interference-free operation of the Belarusian satellite network with Russian satellite networks.
Sergei Popkov and Nikolai Nikiforov discussed the possibility of access of software developers from the Eurasian Economic Union member states to markets of the union. “The Russian side fully shares the view that software originating from a Eurasian Economic Union member state, including Belarus, should enjoy equal terms of access to government purchases in each Eurasian Economic Union member state,” said Nikolai Nikiforov. He added that at present the Eurasian Economic Union lacks common rules for determining and confirming the origin of software.
