MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian Economy Ministry believes it is necessary to introduce a 50% mandatory quota on the representation of the private sector in public advisory boards, BelTA learned from Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky during the 17th Assembly of Business Circles of Belarus on 2 March.
The official said that the Economy Ministry intends to suggest to the government that a mandatory quota on the representation of the private sector in public advisory boards should be introduced. The quota should be at least as large as 50% of the number of people in a public advisory board. “It is necessary for moving forward. Time requires it. I am convinced that our proposal will be backed,” stressed the Economy Minister.
According to Vladimir Zinovsky, the establishment of public advisory boards under government agencies is one of the results of Belarus President Directive No. 4, which was adopted in 2010 for the sake of encouraging entrepreneurship initiatives and stimulating business activity in Belarus. Since then 31 public advisory boards have been set up. The public advisory boards held over 250 sessions in 2013-2015, with over 180 sessions of other expert bodies held in the same period. “The draft renewed directive is now being reviewed by the head of state. Representatives of the business community took an active part in the work on the document,” explained Vladimir Zinovsky.
The Economy Minister said that renewed directive No. 4 and the government program on developing small and medium businesses in 2016-2020 should become the program documents on enabling favorable conditions for the sake of increasing the potential of Belarusian SMEs in the current five-year term.
