Boeing invited to cooperate with Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – The Transport and Communications Ministry of Belarus has invited the Boeing Company to establish business contacts with Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant, Minister of Transport and Communications of Belarus Anatoly Sivak told BelTA.

“We have recently met with representatives of Boeing. The company will consider our suggestions; the consultations on the matter will be continued,” the minister said.

Anatoly Sivak noted that construction works are underway on a new site adjoining National Airport Minsk. “Our task is to make rapid progress on the project. When it is complete, negotiations with potential investors (not only Boeing – BelTA's note) will gain momentum. Now the talks are pretty sluggish,” the minister said.

According to him, Br30 billion has been provided from the budget in 2014 to build new premises for Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant. The money will be utilized in 2014. “The money will not be enough to complete the works scheduled for this year, because we are trying to accelerate the pace of construction,” Anatoly Sivak noted.

Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant (today it is located not far from Minsk downtown) has 45 years of experience. At present the company overhauls the Tu-134, Yak-40, Yak-42 and the Yak-52. After the relocation and upgrade, the plant will be able to repair aircraft produced by Boeing, Airbus and CRJ. The workshop to produce component parts for military and civil aircraft will be among the first to become operational on the new premises. This will be one of the major lines of business of the company alongside with aircraft painting and aircraft maintenance and repair on the territory of National Airport Minsk.
