MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) hopes that peaceful dialogue on Nagorny Karabakh will be resumed soon, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev told journalists, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
“Young Azerbaijanis and Armenians die, thousands suffer, both sides sustain huge damage, hatred and enmity are stirred up, and all this undermines the basis for returning to peace process. All of us in the CIS, friends and partners of Armenia and Azerbaijan, hope that both sides will demonstrate will and prudence, will stop bloodshed and will immediately find an opportunity to resume peaceful dialogue,” Sergei Lebedev said.
The Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee emphasized that all the countries of the CIS feel deep pain and grave concern at the aggravation of the conflict and violence in Nagorny Karabakh. “A number of presidents and foreign ministers of CIS states have already addressed their Azerbaijani and Armenian partners with a call to cease military operations and resume search for peaceful ways to settle the conflict,” Sergei Lebedev added.
According to the latest information, at least 33 people were killed and more than 200 were injured during clashes in Nagorny Karabakh between 2 and 3 April.
