MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – Minsk played host to a meeting of the group of experts reviewing the draft agreement on the exchange of information to combat terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism and the financing of terrorism, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The draft document has been finalized, taking into account the comments and proposals from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The CIS Executive Committee suggested sending the materials adopted at the meeting of experts to the CIS member states for domestic harmonization. After that the draft agreement could be submitted, in the prescribed manner, for the consideration of the CIS Council Heads of Government.
The press service noted that the document has been developed to enhance international cooperation in this field, make it more efficient. The draft document provides for the exchange of information, ensuring the legal regime of information systems, including the interstate ones, and also appropriate protection of classified information.
Information will be exchanged through the competent authorities. It is expected that the databank of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center will act as the interstate information system for combating terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism.
The CIS Anti-Terrorism Center will coordinate the formation, operation and functioning of the CIS databank. It will establish direct contacts with the competent agencies and authorities of the CIS responsible for the creation and use of information systems.
