MINSK, 29 February (BelTA) - Gorki Fish Hatchery plans big shipments to Russia's Karelia in 2016, Andrei Sergeyev, the head of the fishery and aquaculture department of the state enterprise Belvodkhoz, told a press conference, BelTA has learned.
“Gorki Fish Hatchery delivers stocking material to Russia, for example, to Karelia. There is a contract to supply 1.5 million baby fish to that region. The hatchery produces 3 million of stocking material per year. So this is a very good contract, and as far as I know, part of the funds has already been transferred,” Andrei Sergeyev said.
The first deliveries will begin in the spring. “The prices are roughly the same as in the world. Stocking material weighing 50g costs €15-16. Now baby fish is about 2-3 grams,” he noted.
He explained that Gorki Fish Hatchery can satisfy the needs of all Belarusian aquaculture farms in stocking material. “However, some of the farms are yet to reach the designed capacity. Meanwhile, the stocking material is exported,” he said.
As was previously reported, the fish hatchery in Gorki was commissioned in 2013. It specializes in incubation and cultivation of valuable species of fish. The main species is rainbow trout. For research the hatchery breeds a small amount of cold-loving whitefish and sterlets.
