IMF: Belarus joins gold buying spree in January

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – According to the International Monetary Fund, Belarus was among the world's major gold buyers in January, BelTA has learned.

Belarus added 33,000 ounces to its gold reserves and became the fourth biggest gold buyer in January. Russia expanded its holdings by 688,000 ounces and topped the January rankings. It was followed by Turkey and Kazakhstan (38,000 ounces each). The top five was rounded off by Malaysia (10,000 ounces). The IMF'S statistics for January does not yet reflect the China data (according to the data voiced previously, China added 520,000 ounces to its gold reserves).

According to the International Monetary Fund, the largest sellers of gold from their gold and currency reserves were Mozambique (50,000 ounces) and Canada (50,000 ounces).
