MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Georgy Koliyev of Belarus has claimed the 61kg silver medal at the European Wrestling Championships in Riga, BelTA has learned.
In the final the Belarusian lost to Vladimir Khinchegashvili of Georgia 1-6. The Georgian athlete defended his champion title. On his way to the final Georgy Koliyev beat Munir Aktas of Turkey 4-3 and Ukraine's Petro Bileichuk 6-2.
World silver medalist, winner of the First European Games in Baku Vasilisa Marzalyuk of Belarus came through the repechage to reach the bronze match where she beat Svetlana Saenko of Moldova 5-0.
Belarus' medal haul at the ongoing competitions in Latvia has now reached five. Earlier, Ivan Yankovsky won the 97kg silver medal. Irina Kurochkina collected silver in the 53kg event, while Marina Markevich claimed the 48kg bronze.
