Stavros Lambrinidis took note of the work Belarus and the OSCE/ODIHR have been conducting to improve the election process in the country following the 2015 presidential election. “We, the European Union, fully support the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations and the current dialogue,” he stressed. The EU Special Representative for Human Rights also noted that the parliamentary election would soon take place in Belarus and expressed hope that joint efforts would help implement some of the OSCE recommendations ahead of this event.
According to Lilia Ananich, Belarus constantly improves its legislation and specialists of the Information Ministry take an active part in the work of the interagency working group set up at the Central Election Commission to study the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations. “The recommendations touch upon the issues that fall within the purview of our ministry. We will consider every one of them in detail,” she assured.
The interagency working group of experts to study OSCE/ODIHR recommendations on the improvement of the election process in Belarus was set up on 12 February. The group includes representatives of the Central Election Commission, the National Center for Legislation and Legal Research, the two chambers of the parliament, the Justice Ministry, the Information Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The group is headed by CEC member Yelena Dmukhailo.
The working group analyzes the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations included into the final report of its election observation mission in Belarus in 2015.
