MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – The low-cost airline FlyDubai may start serving flights to Belarus, Igor Cherginets, Belavia's Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs, said on 3 March during an event held to mark the company's 20th birthday, BelTA has learned.
“We met with the company's president and sales director and invited them to launch flights (to Belarus – BelTA's note). They are considering the idea. So far we have not received any final answer from them, but we hope for a positive decision,” Igor Cherginets noted.
In January 2016, he posted on Twitter that negotiations on cooperation with UAE airlines were underway. The negotiations were organized with the participation of the Belarusian Embassy in the UAE.
Igor Cherginets pointed out that since the beginning of 2016 Belavia has received cooperation proposals from around ten airlines. The Belarusian company is currently in talks with Qatar Airways and Emirates.
Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus by the number of passengers and cargoes it transports. In January 2014 the Belarusian airline acquired a legal status of an open joint stock company. Belavia operates 27 aircraft, and offers regulars flights to 46 destinations in Europe and Asia. Belavia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1997 and the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA) in 2010.
