GOMEL, 3 March (BelTA) – Reducing the prime cost of manufactured products is the key condition for improving the competitive ability of Belarus-made goods. The opinion was voiced by Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik after negotiations with the delegation of the administration of Russia's Orenburg Oblast on 3 March, BelTA has learned.
The axiom is equally true for the domestic market and foreign ones, Vladimir Dvornik is convinced. “Every year we feel the growing competition among manufacturers. Those, who can offer the best value for money, will win,” he remarked. Lower prime costs and higher output allow private businesses to raise profits, which in turn fuels consequent modernization and keeps the company on the market.
In the last few years Gomel Oblast has been working hard to diversify target markets for agricultural products. An analysis indicates that the quality of the merchandise satisfies potential customers in most cases. As a rule, prices are what sellers and consumers argue about. Prices need to be reduced, however, today farmers operate in difficult financial conditions, which are aggravated by droughts and other unfavorable weather factors. It may be a good idea to look for reserves in allied industries, for instance, the mechanical engineering industry, which supplies machines to farmers.
“This is why [the Gomel-based mechanical engineering company]Gomselmash is now trying to reduce all kinds of expenses, which affect the prime cost of machines in order to make harvesters and other kinds of products made by the factory more affordable. Apart from that, it is necessary to remember that the machines are bought using state support, in other words, state budget appropriations,” stated Vladimir Dvornik.
Regions of Russia are also interested in buying agricultural machines at more affordable prices. The matter was discussed during the meeting of Vladimir Dvornik and Orenburg Oblast Governor Yuri Berg on 3 March.
