MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Introducing a 100% payment of utility bills by households will depend on people's financial wellbeing, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the session held on 14 March to discuss utility rates for the population, BelTA has learned.
“We are saying that someday Belarusian people will pay full cost of these services. Just let us not say that it will happen in 2018. I never said so. This may happen in 2020, or in 2025, and will depend on people's financial standing,” the head of state noted.
“People need to have money to pay the price we will set for them. It is unclear if this will happen in 2018, 2020 or 2025. Let us wait and see,” the President said.
“Today we should set the price for these services. We have a clear idea of the demand for utilities. Let us leave it for the people to do the calculations,” the Belarusian leader pointed out.
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that new utility rates will be published in the media after the session.
