VORONOVO DISTRICT, 23 September (BelTA) – The national security system of Belarus proves capable of tackling modern challenges and threats, Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Leonid Maltsev told media in Voronovo District on 23 September, BelTA has learned.
According to the Chairman, Belarus is able to address many present-day challenges and threats thanks to its viable state system and the attention it attaches to securing stability and security in the country. “With a well-operational system, one is able to address any issues,” he said. Thus, Belarus has welcomed over 100,000 migrants from Ukraine. Belarus took a balanced stance in respect to the Ukrainian-Russian situation, tried to lead the dialogue into a peaceful path and reached certain results, said Leonid Maltsev.
Commenting on the situation with illegal migration, the head of the committee noted that Belarus' state policy meets the national interests of its people. It is the main goal of the national security system which is able to address modern challenges and threats. Back then, Belarus decided against the European border policy. “We continued strengthening our state border, ensuring our border security. As a result, today we protect ourselves and the European Union against smuggling and illegal migration,” he said.
Leonid Maltsev added that the border committee has been consistently improving the border security system, introducing new technical devices, unmanned aircraft, light gyroplanes, new sensing systems, including those made domestically. Leonid Maltsev said that in the mid August he was presented a domestic sensing system with better characteristics than its foreign analogues. Starting from 1 January 2016 this equipment will be installed at Belarusian border outposts.
