MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – The merger of the Belarusian mechanical engineering company MAZ and the Russian automobile manufacturer KamAZ would be beneficial for the people of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov on 31 March.
“Our nations would benefit from it,” noted the Ambassador. “Integration and manufacturing cooperation are necessary, including for the sake of raising standards of cooperation between the economies.”
Alexander Surikov said he believes that the two companies should be united because truck manufacturers from third countries have already occupied a significant part of the market in Belarus and Russia. The Ambassador said he fears that in the future the fate of the Czech automaker Tatra, which is no longer around, may befall KamAZ and MAZ.
Transnational companies that rapidly conquer new markets grow ever stronger. “They have more resources than some of our economic operators,” noted the diplomat.
“It is necessary to encourage mergers of enterprises as much as possible,” Alexander Surikov was convinced. In his words, a united company should be strong enough to occupy the markets of Russia, Belarus, and the Eurasian Economic Union.
