MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Treat Huey of the Philippines have advanced to the men's doubles semifinal of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco, Mexico, BelTA informs.
In the quarterfinal match Max Mirnyi and Treat Huey, seeded fourth, beat the Polish-Mexican duet of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Santiago Gonzalez in two sets 7-5, 6-2. The meeting lasted for 73 minutes.
In the opener the Belarusian-Filipino duo battled through the Australian duet of Chris Guccione and Bernard Tomic 4-6, 6-3, 14-12.
Now Max Mirnyi and Treat Huey will face the first-seeded Columbian tandem Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah for a place in the final.
Victoria Azarenka and Olga Govortsova completed their performance at the tournament in Mexico a day earlier. First-seeded Victoria Azarenka, ranked 14th in the world, withdrew ahead of her second-round match against World No.66 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia due to a left wrist injury. The Belarusian needed two hours to see off Slovenia's Polona Hercog (World No.82) in the opener 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Olga Govortsova (World No. 89) lost her second-round match against World 24 Sloane Stephens of the United States 4-6, 1-6. Earlier, the Belarusian cruised to the second round beating World No.76 Lara Arruabarrena of Spain 6-1, 6-2.
The tournament in Acapulco will complete on 27 February.
