MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry expects that more Belarusian companies and enterprises will get certification for the market of the European Union in 2016, Alexei Bogdanov, the head of the ministry's main division for foreign economic activity, said during a seminar on export promotion on 3 March, BelTA has learned.
“Ten Belarusian enterprises have certificates confirming that their products meet the standards for export to the EU. Four of them are dairies. This year we are working to help other companies obtain such documents. For example, we expect that our meat processing plants will get such export certificates,” Alexei Bogdanov said.
He noted that the ministry is compiling a list of such enterprises. “A group of EU experts inspected our poultry farms a couple of years ago, and they had no complaints. However, some time later the process got stalled. I hope it will be resumed in the near time,” Alexei Bogdanov emphasized.
“Export certificates for the EU market are not expensive. This is more a matter of politics. The European Union has changed its policy with respect to Belarus. We welcome their trade missions and hold negotiations, including on certification of Belarusian enterprises. This is a rather difficult process involving veterinary and sanitary control,” Alexei Bogdanov explained.
He stressed that EU certificates give a number of advantages. “For example, we have recently agreed that all the companies certified for the EU market will be granted access to the market of the United Arab Emirates. Such certificates attest that the products are of high quality,” the official stated.
BelTA reported earlier that four Belarusian dairies can export their products to Europe. These are Savushkin Product, Verkhnedvinsk Creamery, Beryoza Cheese-Making Plant, and the Kopyl subsidiary of Slutsk Creamery. Belarusian meat processing plants do not have such certificates so far.
