MINSK, 26 February (BelTA-TASS) – The consultations on the gas price discount for Belarus will be continued, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told media.
“The matter was discussed, but no decisions were taken. The ministries have been instructed to continue consultations on the issue with the corresponding economic entities,” said Alexander Novak.
In his words, no concrete discount on gas price for Belarus was discussed on 25 February. According to Alexander Novak, Russia's gas price for Belarus is now the lowest among all the countries. "We are working within the framework of the current agreements of 2011 and 2014," the minister noted.
Russian Vice Premier Arkady Dvorkovich and Belarus' Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko held talks on January 13 but failed to reach any agreements regarding the gas price discount. According to Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky, no agreement was reached and the date of a new date was not set. Anatoly Yanovsky added that it was no longer about a 10% cut but concerned concrete figures.
Belarus' Deputy Energy Minister Vadim Zakrevsky previously told reporters that the Energy Ministry expected the price for Russian gas to be slashed in 2016 by more than $10 per 1,000 cubic meters. Although, he said, the current price is also acceptable ($142.37 per 1,000 cubic meters).
