Putin views Belarus-Russia Union as ex-USSR integration driver

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – The Union State of Belarus and Russia is becoming a driver of integration processes in the post-Soviet space. President of Russia Vladimir Putin made the statement as he met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 25 February, BelTA has learned.

The President of Russia underlined that the Union State develops successfully and is even becoming a driver of integration processes in the post-Soviet space to a certain degree.

Vladimir Putin thanked Alexander Lukashenko as a political leader, who oversaw the foundation of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “It is you and Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin, who began this process,” he said.

“Today we have another opportunity to make the next steps to advance our special relations,” said Vladimir Putin. He said he was confident that today's work will give a good incentive to the continuation of the very positive process that Belarus and Russia need. The President of Russia also praised preparations for the session of the Supreme State Council session.
