MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus wants the debate on the death penalty to be as constructive as possible, Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov said at the international conference, Death Penalty: Transcending the Divide, in Minsk on 10 March, BelTA has learned.

“We have never stopped the discussion (on the death penalty – BelTA's note) and have always done everything to make it as productive as possible,” the deputy minister stressed.

In his words, Belarus believes that the solution to any problem should be sought not via confrontation or imposition of opinions, but through a respectful dialogue that takes into account the interests and national features of a country. “We are open to such a dialogue and hope to develop it with our European partners. Our country will always stay open to the discussion of the most complicated and controversial matters, including the ones related to human rights,” said Valentin Rybakov.
