MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – Russia's Saint Petersburg has plans to buy 125 MAZ buses, Maxim Meiksin, Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovation, said at the Belarus-Saint Petersburg business forum on 6 October, BelTA has learned.
In his speech at the forum, Maxim Meiksin presented the prospects for the cooperation between Belarus and Saint Petersburg in industry and innovations. He noted that transport engineering is one of the most promising cooperation areas. “Saint Petersburg's company Passazhiravtotrans has already bought 80 MAZ buses. A tender for the purchase of another 125 vehicles will be submitted in the near future,” Maxim Meiksin said.
He added that the enterprise Zvezda and the Belarusian automobile engineering company BelAZ have plans to complete the project to make an engine for the haul truck BelAZ-7558 that will be pilot-tested in H1 2017.
As for the cooperation in radio-electronics, Maxim Meiksin noted that the Saint Petersburg-based company Svetlana is working on a program to develop solid-state, micro- and microwave electronics and optoelectronics based on nanoheterostructures. Belpromenergoeffect is the official dealer of the Russian plant in Belarus.
Strong ties have been established in light industry. “Belarusian light industry products sell well in Saint Petersburg,” Maxim Meiksin said. The building products of Belarus' Keramin, Amkodor municipal vehicles are also supplied to the Russian city.
Maxim Meiksin pointed out that 22 sectoral committees, 18 district administrations and 25 enterprises and organizations of Saint Petersburg are involved in the implementation of the 2012-2016 program for the trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation between the governments of Belarus and Saint Petersburg.
“Saint Petersburg and the Republic of Belarus are old friends and business partners. We have established effective cooperation in industry, science, technology and innovations,” Maxim Meiksin emphasized.
