MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Alexandra Sasnovich of Belarus has failed to advance to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, BelTA has learned.
In the opener the Belarusian, ranked 102nd in the world, was crashed by World No.37 Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic 1-6, 3-6 in 69 minutes. Alexandra Sasnovich reached the Indian Wells main draw after beating Bulgaria's Sesil Karatantcheva (World No.128) 7-5, 6-4 and seeing off World No.59 Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-1, 6-2.
Appearing on the open courts in Indian Wells will be two more Belarusians. Olga Govorstova (World No.84) will take on Russia's Margarita Gasparyan (World No.44) in the opener. Victoria Azarenka (World No.13) will open against Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan (87) or Jamie Loeb of the United States (259).
In the men's doubles event Max Mirnyi of Belarus will play in tandem with a new partner, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. They will play the French duo of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Treat Huey of the Philippines claimed the doubles title of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco, Mexico this season.
The tournament in Indian Wells will complete on 20 March.
