Semashko hopes for considerable reduction in Russian gas price for Belarus

MINSK, 29 February (BelTA) – Belarus' Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko hopes for a considerable reduction in the cost of the Russian gas for Belarus. The official made the statement at the ONT show Kontury, BelTA informs.

“We believe that the issue of the cost of the Russian gas Belarus consumes can be addressed. The price for the Russian gas can be taken down considerably. I think that it will help reduce tariffs for the real economic sector and create equal conditions for our companies with respect to our partners from Russia,” noted Vladimir Semashko.

In his words, energy carriers for Belarusian companies sometimes are much more expensive than for Russian companies. This issue was discussed at the Supreme State Council of the Union State. “As it seems to me, this matter was considered as relevant by the Russian leadership and the ministers who were present at the meeting. Belarusians have grounds [for having the cost of the Russian gas reduced – BelTA]. With the legislative base that has been created, with the bilateral Belarusian-Russian agreements that have been signed within the EEU, this issue can and must be addressed. It may happen not later than in March, I think,” said Vladimir Semashko.
