MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus' Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky and EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis met in Minsk to discuss the matters related to the registration of public associations and political parties, BelTA learnt from spokeswoman for the Justice Ministry Olga Murashkovskaya.
“The meeting, which was also attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin, members of the European External Action Service and the EU Office in Belarus, took place at the Justice Ministry. Apart from the aspects related to the registration of public associations and political parties, the sides exchanged opinions on human rights protection and relevant matters,” noted Olga Murashkovskaya.
Stavros Lambrinidis said how the European Union sees the Belarusian potential in improving the laws of registering non-for-profit organizations.
In turn, Oleg Slizhevsky stressed that the first thing Belarus and the European Union need to do is to outline mutually beneficial and promising areas of joint work. The minister also stated that the reforms conducted in the Belarusian justice system had only positive affect on the protection of human rights.
