Special needs children to take to the runway for Moda Italia in Minsk

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) - Minsk will host Moda Italia fashion show for the sixth time, Italian Ambassador to Belarus Stefano Bianchi told reporters, BelTA has learned.

With every year the project acquires more and more social features, the organizers said. This time the clothes will be modeled by children and young people with disabilities and special needs. The event has been supported by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Belarus. According to the organizers, the show will be a unique opportunity to draw public attention to child protection issues and will continue the dialogue on inclusive society.

“An inclusive society is not a problem for people with disabilities. This is our problem. Children with disabilities are not a burden. They can and they want to help others, to study and then work for the benefit of their families, their country, and their society. These are our prejudices and stereotypes. We must create an environment where everyone can realize their potential,” Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, a representative of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Belarus, said. According to him, this is why UNICEF is promoting an inclusive society, a society of equal opportunities, in which every child and adult can make a tangible contribution and develop fully.

The show will feature 18 children and young people with disabilities and special needs showcasing the clothes and shoes made specifically for them. These items will be gifted to them at the end of the show.

“Every business should be socially responsible. Our goal is to ensure more active involvement of business. We want them to realize that it is good to donate part of the profit for social projects,” Rashed Mustafa Sarwar said.

According to him, Italy is an example not only for Europe, but for many countries in the world in terms of attitude towards people with disabilities and the creation of favorable environment. It is no accident that the Italian side drew attention to these issues in this show.

The current show will be dedicated to the clothes and accessories collections of Italian brands of the season autumn/winter 2016-2017. According to the Italian Ambassador, the Belarusian audience will see the works of the Italian designers who they do not know yet. One of the draws will be clothes made from phyto-fibers.

“Products displayed at Moda Italia boast excellent quality, elegance and a unique style, which does not depend on the brand name and is at the heart of all products made in Italy,” Stefano Bianchi said.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pesaro and Urbino (Marche) and the Pesaro-Urbino Confederation of Industrial Enterprises are the partners of the fashion show which will take place in the Prime Hall on 3 March. A master class featuring various fashion trends and know-how will be held on 4 March.
