MINSK, 29 February (BelTA) –Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov believes that the price for Russian gas can be reduced for Belarus. He made the statement in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“The price for gas has been on the agenda because certain issues have to be handled. In general, gas becomes cheaper on global markets,” the diplomat said. “We can discuss issues connected with the prime cost of gas extraction and also agree on the reduction of the price.”
“A corresponding instruction was given to experts. They will solve the issue. I do not have doubts about it,” Alexander Surikov said.
BelTA reported earlier that Belarus now pays $142.37 for 1,000 cubic meters of gas. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko said earlier that there are substantial grounds for the reduction of the Russian gas price.
On 26 February, Belarus' Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik commented on the issue. “The Russian side is working on this issue. It has been recently discussed by the prime ministers of Belarus and Russia. A decision was made to authorize specialized ministries, i.e. the Energy Ministries of the two countries, to analyze the facts provided by the both sides and submit proposals to the prime ministers,” the minister said.
