Airbus, NASB agree to exchange technical experts

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Airbus Group and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) have agreed to exchange technical experts, Sergei Zolotoi, the chief designer of the Belarusian space system for the remote sensing of the Earth, said on 15 March after the visit of an Airbus delegation to the NASB, BelTA has learned.

“This was our first meeting with Airbus Group representatives. We have agreed to exchange technical experts. Once we do this, we will think about further steps to strengthen our cooperation,” Sergei Zolotoi said.

He explained that space exploration is rapidly gaining momentum in the world. “Belarus has achieved great results in production of special-purpose equipment, new materials for space use, and software for processing of space-based data,” Sergei Zolotoi pointed out. He said that the Academy of Sciences provided the Airbus delegation with detailed information about the Belarusian space system and its components, the production of unmanned aircraft, and also presented its view on promising cooperation fields.

Sergei Zolotoi emphasized that the interest from such a company means a lot. “Airbus Group currently holds 50% of the world's market of satellite remote sensing of the Earth, 50% of the market of launch services, and 25% of the market of satellite communications. The fact that they have visited us is an indirect acknowledgement of Belarus' great achievements in space science,” he stressed.

Airbus is one of the world's biggest aircraft manufacturers founded in the late 1960s as a consortium of several European aircraft producers. The concern was named Airbus Group following its rebranding in 2014. The concern employs nearly 139,000 people and is headquartered in four European countries: France, Germany, the UK, and Spain. The company has offices in 35 countries.
