MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Belarus and other member states of the UN Group of Friends of the Family are preparing for the largest in recent years high-level event that will be aimed at supporting the traditional family, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event is scheduled for May 2016.

A Belarusian delegation is currently attending the 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women that opened at the UN headquarters in New York on 14 March. The contacts established during the session will contribute to the organization of the high-level event on traditional family values and similar forums. The Belarusian delegation is led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna. “The delegation will prioritize the promotion of UN's stronger support of the role of the family and traditional values as an important factor of sustainable development,” the press service said. These issues are consonant with the main theme of the session that discusses the interrelation between gender equality and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

During the session in New York, the Belarusian delegation will attend a ministerial discussion to talk about the systemic government measures taken in Belarus to strengthen the role of women in the society. Besides, the delegation will present the national perspective on the methods to improve such efforts at the international level. The session of the commission will run till 24 March 2016.
