Diplomats, people of art, athletes to perform in documentary play Seven in Minsk

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – Diplomats, representatives of the Belarusian media, athletes, people of art, and businessmen will perform in the documentary play Seven in Minsk, BelTA learned from Public Relations Officer at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus Agnia Asanovich.

The performance promoting women's rights will be held on 4 April as part of the UNFPA campaign to fight gender-based violence. On the stage of the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater, the monologues of seven women from different countries will be read out by famous Belarusians, including musician, writer, artist, and founder of the rock bands Mroi, N.R.M. and Krambambulya Lyavon Volsky, businessman and founder of news portal TUT.BY Yuri Zisser, many-time Muay Thai World Champion, Honored Master of Sports of Belarus singing for the punk band Brutto Vitaly Gurkov, TV presenter Anna Bond, Ambassador of Sweden to Belarus Martin Oberg, and UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador in Belarus, TV presenter Svetlana Borovskaya. The name of the seventh participant has not been revealed yet. The performance will be attended by UNFPA Country Director for Belarus Caspar Peek.

The play has been staged in Belarus by Ivan Pinigin. The tickets are available for free from the box office at 7 Engelsa Street.

The project is a joint initiative of the United Nations Population Fund, the Swedish Embassy in Belarus, and the Swedish Institute in Stockholm. It is aimed at initiating a public discussion on women's rights and gender-based violence.

The awareness campaign Violence Against Women is Inadmissible and the reading of the documentary play Seven are expected to draw public attention to gender-based violence and promote a zero tolerance approach to this problem in Belarus.
