MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – A voluntary action Forest Week 2016 will take place in Belarus on 2-9 April, the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry told BelTA.

The voluntary action Forest Week 2016 will take place all over Belarus from 2 April through 9 April. This year's action will be dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, said the press service.

The key purpose of the event is to draw attention of the general public and public organizations to preserving forests as a national treasure. “The action traditionally gathers people of various professions and ages. It is designed to help shape a careful attitude to the environment, to the forest and its denizens. The action reveals how new forests are born and how much effort is needed to keep them clean and healthy,” BelTA has been told.

Every year the Forest Week gathers about 80,000 people. School and university students, youth organizations, and public associations lend a helping hand to Belarusian wood growers during the event.
