Houston interested in establishing sister-city relations with Mogilev

MOGILEV, 22 March (BelTA) - Houston is interested in establishing sister-city relations with Mogilev, Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Ruslan Strakhar told a press briefing when summing up the visits of a Mogilev Oblast delegation to Brazil and the United States on 14-19 March, BelTA has learned.

This proposal came from the American side during the meeting of the Mogilev Oblast delegation led by Governor Vladimir Domanevsky and the senior officials of the secretariat of sister cities of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States. “We discussed steps to further strengthen and develop cooperation between Mogilev and Houston, agreed on the organization of and participation in joint activities in culture, education and medicine,” Ruslan Strakhar said.

The third Texas-Belarus Economic Forum was held in Houston During the visit. The Belarusian delegation held bilateral meetings with partners from Texas to discuss the development of mutually beneficial cooperation.

An agreement was reached on the development of cooperation with the State of Texas. At a meeting in Austin Vladimir Domanevsky and Secretary of State Carlos Cascos expressed readiness to develop partnership in trade, industry, education and culture. During a meeting with the leadership of The Woodlands township the parties signed an agreement on establishing bilateral business partnership between The Woodlands and the city of Bobruisk.

“The major enterprises of Mogilev Oblast, the heads of which were among the members of the delegation, expect that the visit will yield concrete results in the future. For example, Krasny Pischevik Confectionary held talks on the supply of sweets to the southern states of the United States (the company already exports to the northern states). OAO Belshina is ready to resume the supply of ties to the United States. Klimovichi Distillery certificated and already produced pilot batches of goods for the United States,” Ruslan Strakhar said. He stressed that “the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Texas will help promote interregional cooperation between Belarus and the United States of America, boost Belarusian export, and promote its diversification.”

Ruslan Strakhar noted that the visit of the Mogilev delegation to Brazil was as effective. Mogilev Oblast and the Brazilian State of Ceara signed a cooperation agreement. The document provides for the establishment and development of trade, economic and socio-cultural ties. The parties plan to assist in the establishment of direct links and cooperation between enterprises, setting up joint ventures, and will promote closer cooperation in culture, healthcare, education, sports and tourism, and between public organizations.
