Nearly 65,000 men in Belarusian army

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – As of 1 March 2016 the Belarusian army had 64,932 personnel. The information was released by Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 4 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the Belarusian army now has the minimal sufficient number of personnel. As of 1 March the Belarusian army had 64,932 positions, including 14,502 officers, 6,850 warrant officers, 25,671 enlisted personnel, 3,502 cadets and about 16,000 civilian employees.

In time of peace the combat strength of the Belarusian army includes three airbases, two radio technology brigades and four air defense missile brigades, three air defense missile regiments, four mechanized brigades, one missile brigade, one missile and artillery brigade, and three artillery brigades. The army also includes two mobile brigades and two special operations units.

As far as materiel and hardware are concerned, the Belarusian army has 54 aircraft, 32 helicopters, 16 S-300 air defense missile system batteries, four Buk air defense missile system batteries, six Osa air defense missile system batteries, one Tor-M2 air defense missile system battery, 12 Tochka guided missile systems, over 700 multiple-launch rocket systems, field artillery systems, and self-propelled artillery systems. The army also has 602 tanks, 886 infantry combat vehicles and 192 armored personnel carriers.

The Armed Forces of Belarus have a total of over 54,000 units of armament and special military hardware. The army has roughly 700,000 tonnes of missile ammunition and 730,000 tonnes of munitions. There are about 170 garrisons in the country. The main ones are located in Minsk, Baranovichi, and Borisov.
