New water supply, water disposal rates approved in Belarus

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko approved of new utility rates on 14 March, BelTA has learned.

In accordance with the instruction of the head of state, the working group including representatives of the government, the State Control Committee, the Belarus President Administration, oblast executive committees revised the formation of major utility rates. As Belarus' Housing and Utilities Minister Alexander Terekhov told reporters, the working group concluded that it is possible to reduce water supply rates by 41.5%, wastewater disposal rates by 55.1%, elevator maintenance by almost 30%. Certain utility rates proved to be fair and objective.

The report on the payment for utility services by the population and a corresponding draft decree were submitted to the President on 14 March, and he approved of the major utility rates, including water supply, water disposal, elevator maintenance tariffs. Alexander Lukashenko wanted to be informed about the ways of formation of the prime cost of all services. As a result, the head of state approved of the approaches envisaged in the draft decree regarding the utility rates and gave an instruction to specify all details concerning these rates in the decree.

As a result, people will be able to calculate the amount of money they will have to pay for utility services depending on the size of their apartments, the minister explained. It is expected that the draft decree will be signed in the near future.

An instruction was given to provide comprehensible utility bills to the population. “We will try to simplify utility bills,” Alexander Terekhov added.
