MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Ivan Yankovsky and Irina Kurochkina claimed silver medals at the ongoing European Wrestling Championships in Riga, BelTA has learned.
Ivan Yankovsky reached the final to lose to Russia's Anzor Boltukayev 0-11 in the 97kg freestyle competition. The silver medalist was confident in the previous bouts leaving no chances to the wrestler from Greece 9-0 and proving too strong for German's Erik Sven Thiele 3-2.
Irina Kurochkina added to the home medal tally winning silver in the 53kg women's wrestling event. On her way to the final the Belarusian defeated Yulia Blagini of Ukraine 7-4, Karima Sanchez of Spain 12-2, Natalia Budu of Moldova 6-2. In the deciding bout the Belarusian lost to Sofia Mattsson of Sweden 4-0.
Earlier, Marina Markevich won bronze for Belarus in the 48kg weight category.
