UFA, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus is in favor of advancing cooperation with Iran, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani in Ufa on 9 July, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko remarked that Belarus and Iran maintain longstanding friendly relations. “I think that the Iranian side cannot make claims about the issues we have discussed and agreed on, because we have always respected and implemented our agreements,” the Belarusian leader said. “I want to say that it will be the same in the future. We will be always committed to our agreements,” the Belarusian head of state said.
The Belarus President emphasized that the countries had a rather complicated period in bilateral relations connected with external claims, sanctions and pressure. “This period is over,” the Belarusian leader said.
Alexander Lukashenko praised Iran's achievements on the international arena. “I am very glad that these talks take place, there are good prospects connected with the new President of Iran. We strongly hope for the enhancement of our cooperation,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
The President of Iran, in turn, pointed out Iran's interest in developing relations with Belarus. “We have always maintained good relations with you personally and with Belarus in general,” he said.
